An investigation into the shooting of a 50-year-old man near Tallow in Co Waterford has been downgraded.
They say the incident, which took place yesterday, is not now being treated as suspicious.
The man, who is in his 50s, is in a stable condition in hospital after undergoing surgery.
He has been named locally as John Michael Kelly, a member of the Shamrocks GAA Club at nearby Knockanore and a well-known referee throughout Waterford.
Mr Kelly left his home at around midday yesterday and set off on the quiet and secluded woodland walkway at Coolbeggan.
Just over an hour later, he emerged onto the roadway having been shot in the stomach. He flagged down a motorist who raised the alarm.
Mr Kelly was rushed to Cork University Hospital where he underwent surgery.
