A man has been injured in a shooting incident in Limerick city.

It happened just before 4pm on Hyde Avenue in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city.

The man received injuries to his leg when a number of shots were fired at a house in the area.

The victim, who is aged in his 40s, is being treated at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick after he was brought there by car.

It is understood his injuries are not life threatening.

The area remained cordoned off for a number of hours this afternoon while gardaí carried out a technical examination.

They are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a car take off at high speed heading for the city centre at around that time.

Gardaí are investigating if the incident is connected to a number of violent feud-related deaths in the city in recent weeks.

This shooting happened close to the area where 20-year-old James Cronin was found shot dead just over two weeks ago.

His body was found just two days after 40-year-old Mark Moloney was shot dead in Garryowen.

A man has been before the courts charged with his murder.
