Bishop of Limerick Dr Donal Murray has made a special appeal for an end to the violence which has blighted the city in recent weeks.
In a homily during Sunday mass at St John's Cathedral in the city this afternoon, Bishop Murray challenged young people in the city not to be led to develop destructive attitudes.
Bishop Murray said it was a terrible thing for young people to be drawn into a world of violence and murder.
He also said that violence had already spilled over and was destroying the reputation and hopes of many good and peaceful members of the community.
He asked the community to pray for young people who are being drawn into violence and crime and appealed to those involved to recognise the futility of their actions.
