Retired tax inspector James Livingstone has settled his case for damages against the State for an undisclosed sum.
Lawyers settled the case this afternoon after a week long hearing.
Mr Livingstone was suing the State for wrongful arrest in connection with his wife's murder.
Grace Livingstone was found dead at their Dublin home in December 1992 and the case has never been solved.
In a statement read to the court, gardaí accepted that Mr Livingstone was entitled to a full and unreserved presumption of innocence.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed by either side.
Afterwards Mr Livingstone and his family said they were pleased their ordeal was over.
