Police investigating the murder of a man in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, have arrested a 21-year-old man.

The PSNI began its murder inquiry after the body of a 32-year-old man was found in the early hours of the morning.

Shaun Fitzpatrick from Lisnahull, who lived locally, was the victim of an assault.

It is believed Mr Fitzpatrick had sustained severe wounds to his head.

Mr Fitzpatrick had been walking home along the Donaghmore Road after a night out in the centre of Dungannon.

The PSNI says his body was discovered between some houses shortly after 3.30am.

A local priest was called to give the last rites and said prayers for Mr Fitzpatrick at Easter Sunday Mass.

Detectives believe Mr Fitzpatrick had been in a pub in the town centre between 11pm last night and 2am.

Mr Fitzpatrick managed a shop not far from the scene of the killing.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area between 2am and 4am to contact them.

The PSNI is keeping an open mind about a possible motive. It says a number of lines of inquiry are being followed.
