The investigation into the death of a man in Blanchardstown has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.
So far no arrests have been made but gardaí say they are pursuing a definite line of enquiry.
The dead man has been named as 31-year-old Mark Smyth from Duleek, Co Meath who was orginally from Ballycurris Road in Ballymun in Dublin.
He had picked up a man and a woman who were known to him in Clonee, Co Meath, last night and drove them to Fortlawn Avenue in Blanchardstown, arriving there shortly after 10pm.
The victim's partner and two-year-old child were in the car at the time.
It is understood that a row broke out in the car; the driver fled and was pursued by the couple who attacked him on Fortlawn Avenue.
A local resident attempted to intervene but Mr Smyth was stabbed a number of times, collapsed and died in the driveway of a house.
