The main treasurer of Fianna Fáil's Dublin Central constituency says he did not know exactly how much was in the BT account from which Celia Larkin was loaned £30,000.
Dominic Dillane told the Mahon Tribunal that he did not receive account statements and took it on faith that there was no withdrawals.
Mr Dillane said when he took over as main treasurer in 2001 he was told about the BT account by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern during the election campaign.
He said Mr Ahern told him that Celica Larkin had been loaned £30,000 and there was £35,000 left.
Mr Dillane said that he presented a treasurer's report to AGM of the Comhairle Dáil Ceanntar for six years but did not know exactly how much was in the account.
He said he would tell the meeting that there had been no transactions but would not be able to tell them the account balance.
Judge Gerard Keys commented that he found this extraordinary.
Following a request by the Judge, Mr Dillane said he would check to see if he could find copies of his treasurer reports.
Mr Dillane said he did not tell the AGM about the loan to Ms Larkin.
Under questioning Mr Dillane said he took it on faith that there had not been any transactions because he had not been told of any.
He had been told by the Taoiseach back in 2001 that there had not been any transactions since 1995.
Mr Dillane said that was good enough for him but he admitted he did not get any further briefing on the account in subsequent years.
