Convicted drug dealer John Gilligan has told the High Court it was his former associate John Traynor who had journalist Veronica Guerin shot dead.

Gilligan, who was acquitted of the murder, claimed the only reason he was currently facing proceedings to have a receiver appointed over his assets was because of the Guerin killing in 1996.

Mr Gilligan was repeatedly told to stick to the case before the court.

Mr Justice Kevin Feeney reserved judgment until next Monday on the application.

The Criminal Assets Bureau is seeking to have its legal officer appointed receiver to the Gilligan family properties.
