A woman has been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of Donna Cleary.

The woman, who is in her late 20s, was arrested in Dublin on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Donna Cleary, a 22-year-old mother of one, was shot at a house party in Adare Green in Coolock on 5 March 2006.

Five shots were fired in to the house after a group of men were refused entry to the party.

The main suspect for the murder, 22-year-old Dwayne Foster, later died in garda custody.

Today's arrest is being seen as a significant and somewhat unexpected development.

This morning detectives from Coolock arrested a woman in her 20s at her home in Beaumont in north Dublin.

She was arrested at around 8am on suspicion of possession of a firearm on the night Donna Cleary was murdered.

She can be questioned for up to three days.
