A total of 301 drink driving incidents were recorded by gardaí from 24 December to 31 December 2007.
But even more people were making merry and then jumping into their cars the previous week. A total of 357 drink driving incidents were recorded in the week leading up to Christmas Eve, preliminary reports say.
These figures are about the same as last year, when 318 drink driving incidents took place in the week between Christmas and New Year's and 342 incidents the previous week.
Gardaí have promised they will continue to strictly enforce drink driving laws, as road safety is a priority.
