Two people have been arrested in the midlands in connection with an investigation into widespread ATM fraud on a national and international scale.
Gardaí in Athlone arrested a man and a woman who were interfering with an ATM machine outside a bank in Church Street in the town last night.
In a follow-up search they recovered extensive equipment which they believe was used to alter and interfere with ATMs in Ireland and abroad.
It is understood the equipment seized included mini-camera devices and blue tooth technology that could used to illegally record personal bank information and allow access to private accounts.
