Walkinstown - Man stabbed near Beechfield Road

Gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in Dublin last night say they are keeping an open mind on the motive for the attack.

Detectives say they are not ruling out the possibility that the attack followed a row among people involved in criminal activity.

However, the person who raised the alarm told gardaí it was a road rage incident.

The 42-year-old victim was stabbed four times in the head and body in a laneway off Beechfield Road in Walkinstown at around 9pm.

It is understood he was attacked as he tried to drive through the laneway.

Gardaí believe his route was blocked by another vehicle and an argument ensued.

A passenger in the vehicle escaped and raised the alarm from a nearby house.

The man was taken to St James's Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The area remains sealed off for a forensic examination.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.
