Bodyke - Divers to search lake for remains

A lake near Bodyke in east Clare is being searched after the discovery of skeletal human remains.

A man out fishing on the lake found parts of a skeleton yesterday and preliminary examinations indicate the body could have been in the water for up to two years.

A garda technical team has taken a boat out onto the lake to resume the search today, but it is being hampered by poor weather.

Heavy rains and poor visibility is making the job difficult.

Some human remains, including a skull and torso, were taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick yesterday and were examined by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

It is believed the remains are those of a young person. Some clothing attached to the remains are also being examined.

The process of identification will be a lengthy one, which will include an examination by a forensic pathologist, as well as an investigation of dental records.

Gardaí will also be checking missing persons lists.
