The Government is to publish a leaflet next month explaining the issues surrounding the EU Reform Treaty.
Minister for European Affairs Dick Roche told the Dáil that a referendum on the treaty will probably be held in the middle of 2008.
Mr Roche said he had a date in mind but the Government had not yet agreed to it.
He said the Government had sought formal legal advice from the Attorney General on whether or not a referendum was needed and they were awaiting a reply. Mr Roche said he expects this reply to be positive.
