The PSNI have confirmed that an officer has been shot in the chest in the Circular Road area of Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

Reports suggest the officer was hit while driving his car when he slowed down near traffic lights.

It is understood the injured man managed to drive to a nearby PSNI station and he was brought to hospital.

Last week, dissident Republicans shot and injured a police officer in Derry.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, has condemned the shooting and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
