Frederick Russell, who was extradited from Ireland to the United States last year on charges of vehicular homicide, has been found guilty by a court in Washington State.

Russell lived in Ireland for several years under a false name until he was identified from the FBI's Most Wanted List on the Internet.

He was originally charged on three counts of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault after a 2001 traffic accident in which three students lost their lives on the border of Washington and Idaho in the northwest US.

Russell was found to have been over the legal alcohol limit and to have been driving over the speed limit.

He jumped bail in November 2001 and emerged in Dublin where he lived for several years until he was identified.

He was arrested and extradited to the US last year.

His trial in Kelso, Washington, lasted for just over three weeks. The jury delivered its verdict of guilty on all counts after a day-and-a-half's deliberation.

Russell faces a sentence of between 10 and 14 years. He is expected to be sentenced in three weeks' time.
