Most people believe life is tougher for young people now than ten years ago, according to new research.
The research by Permanent TSB and youth organisation Foróige identifies drink and drugs, peer pressure and keeping up with fashion and technology trends, as the three top challenges facing young people.
Most people believe mental health issues, including depression and eating disorders, are also major challenges.
The survey shows the media is making life tougher, making young people easy targets, and being too critical in its reporting.
Other challenges identified included school and college, sexuality, and lack of self-esteem.
Only a third of people believe young people look to their parents as role models, while 70% saw celebrities as holding most influence.
