The State's main witness in the trial of four men accused of the fatal shooting of a Limerick doorman has said he was offered €10,000 to shoot Brian Fitzgerald.

James Martin Cahill, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of Mr Fitzgerald, was giving evidence in the trial of Gary Campion, John and Desmond Dundon and Anthony Kelly for the murder.

The Central Criminal Court, which is sitting in Cloverhill, heard Cahill hid in the bushes opposite Mr Fitzgerald's house waiting for him to arrive home in the early hours of the morning.

Cahill described how he ran across the road as Mr Fitzgerald got out of his car and started shooting at him.

Mr Fitzgerald was hit and fell to the ground but managed to get up and run to his front door.

Cahill continued shooting and Mr Fitzgerald once again fell to the ground.

At this point Cahill walked up to him and shot him in the head.

On completion of Cahill's evidence Mr Justice Peter Charlton adjourned the case until tomorrow morning to allow time for the transcript of Cahilll's evidence to be given to both prosecution and defence counsels.
