Sinn Féin has said that five of the party's councillors from north Belfast have received renewed death threats.
Stormont Minister Gerry Kelly said the councillors were told by the PSNI about the threat to their lives.
All the threatened councillors had been nominated to serve in District Policing Partnerships.
Mr Kelly said the threats were unacceptable and would not prevent or prohibit the councillors to serve the community who elect them.
