Gardaí investigating a double stabbing in Tipperary in which a woman died have recovered a knife.

The 20-year-old victim of the stabbing has been named locally as Joanne Mangan who was originally from the Newcastle area of South Tipperary.

Ms Mangan's 23-year-old brother Eddie is still in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital after he received a number of stab wounds.

A 30-year-old man is being questioned at Cahir Garda Station.

The incident occurred at an isolated house in Ballynamuddagh near Grange, around 10km from Clonmel last night.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination on the body of Ms Mangan before officially classifying the investigation.
