A 27-year-old man has gone on trial for the murder of his 21-year-old friend at a New Year's Eve celebration in Jury's hotel in January 2006.
Karl Breen, from Nangor Cresent in Clondalkin in Dublin, denies the charge.
The Central Criminal Court was told Mr Breen stabbed Martin McLoughlin in his hotel room in the early hours of New Year's Day.
The court also heard that Mr McLoughlin was stabbed three times, in the arm, back and chest and that there were no defensive injuries on his body.
Senior Counsel Brendan Grehan told the jury of ten men and two women that the murder occured after the men became involved in a row between their two girlfriends.
