A schoolboy has been charged with the murder of a Leaving Certificate student last May.

Sean Nolan, 18, from Griffith Court in Fairview died after being stabbed during a row at Waterloo Road in Dublin 4 on 26 May.

A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murder at Dublin Children's Court this morning.

Judge Ann Ryan was told that the State was seeking to withdraw a charge for assault causing harm that was brought earlier.

The murder charge will proceed in the Central Criminal Court.

Another charge for producing two kitchen knives during a dispute is also to proceed.

Until today, the south Dublin teenager had been subject to strict bail conditions including that he had to reside at his family address, obey a curfew and sign on at Donnybrook Garda Station.

However, after he was charged with murder, Judge Ryan remanded the boy in custody for a week.

A bail application is expected to be made later at the High Court sitting in Cloverhill.
