Longford - Woman found dead
Longford - Woman found dead

A murder investigation is continuing following the discovery of the body of a 37-year-old woman in Longford town.

The body of Sharon Coughlan, a mother of two, was found in a vacant house on Saturday night.

Gardaí have confirmed that Ms Coughlan died a result of asphyxiation.

She worked at a bar in Longford and it is understood she spoke to some members of her family on Saturday afternoon, just hours before her body was found.

Gardaí have spoken to key holders of the rented accommodation where her body was discovered and have appealed to anyone who may have seen Ms Coughlan in the hours before her death to contact them on 043-50570.

Ms Coughlan was 1.6m (5'3") in height, with shoulder length black hair. She was wearing a black tracksuit with two white stripes along the legs and sleeves when she was last seen. She was carrying a large black shoulder bag.

Anyone who was in the St Mel's Road/Templemichael Terrace area of the town near the back entrance to the Tesco car park and who may have seen anything unusual there between noon and 10pm on Saturday is asked to contact gardaí.
