Two prison officers arrested yesterday as part of an investigation into the smuggling of drugs and other contraband in prisons have been released.
A garda spokesperson said the men were released yesterday evening at 6pm.
Yesterday gardaí carried out searches and arrested the 34 and 37-year-old who were held for questioning at Newbridge Garda Station.
More than 50 gardaí from Portlaoise and the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation searched prison officers' lockers and cells in Portlaoise and the Midlands prisons yesterday.
The homes of four suspected local drug dealers and five prison officers were also searched.
