A 68-year-old former school principal, who has not yet paid €305,000 in damages to a woman he sexually assaulted in school, has been told by a District Court Judge that he has one month to come up with an offer acceptable to her.

Leo Hickey was given a three year prison sentence in 1998 for sexually assaulting 22 girls at Dunderrow National School in Kinsale.

Judge James McNulty told him that with his monthly pension of €2,200 and a house he could afford to pay his victim, Louise O'Keeffe, more than the €200 a month he was offering.

The 43-year-old mother of two sought an Enforcement Order against Mr Hickey for the €305,000 damages awarded to her in the High Court last October.

But since then he has not made any effort to pay her the damages and she sought an Enforcement Order from the District Court in Clonakilty.

Ms O Keeffe lost an action against the State and the Dept of Education over her abuse.

Legal costs of €500,000 were awarded against her and she is now appealing this decision and the costs to the Supreme Court.
