An 18-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court charged in connection with the death of a man in Ballinlough, Co Roscommon yesterday.

Tom Cunningham was charged with assualt causing harm.

He was remanded in custody at Castlerea Prison to appear at Harristown Court, Castlerea on 31 August at 11am.

The body of 46-year-old Mr Cunningham was found in the garden of a house in the village yesterday morning.

A post mortem carried out by State Pathologist Marie Cassidy found that he died as a result of injuries sustained in an assault.

For operational reasons gardaí say they will not be giving any further details of the nature of his injuries.

Mr Cunningham had been living in the area with his elderly parents for the past six years.

This morning Superintendent Sean Warde, who is heading the investigation, appealed to anybody who was in Ballinlough between 5pm on Wednesday and 9am yesterday morning and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact gardaí at Castlerea Garda station on 094-96 20019.
