A 29-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the seizure of €400,000 worth of herbal cannabis in Cork City on Thursday.
Lukomon Onikosi, of Wellington Road Cork, was arrested following a joint operation by custom officials and gardaí.
He was brought before a special sitting of the District Court in Macroom last night and charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of cannabis. He was remanded in custody to appear before the court again on 24 August.
Meanwhile, at a special sitting of the District Court in Wicklow last night, a 35-year-old man was charged in connection with the seizure of 23kg of cannabis resin at Rosslare Port on Thursday with an estimated street value of nearly €163,000.
Kevin Joseph Sweeney, of Dromiskin Co Louth, was charged with importing and carrying cannabis resin.
He was remanded in custody until 24 August to appear at Clover Hill District Court.
