A human skull has been found in the garden of a house on the Orlagh Grove estate in Knocklyon in Dublin.

The discovery was made around lunchtime by a woman who was clearing an area at the back of her garden shed. It is understood the skull was in a plastic bag.

The area has been sealed off for forensic examination and the State Pathologist's office has been notified.

The skull is believed to be that of a man and it has now been removed from the scene.

Gardaí are trying to determine how long the remains may have been there and how it got there.
