Dublin District Court - Two men appeared this morning

Two Dublin men have appeared in court charged in connection with a seizure of heroin, which has a potential street value of €1m.

The 5kg of the drug was discovered last Thursday when gardaí from the National Drugs Unit searched a car they had stopped at the M50 toll plaza.

A 27 and a 29-year-old appeared in court charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Both were granted legal aid and remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill district court next week.

A 48-year-old man who was arrested in the follow up investigation was released without charge last night and a file will be prepared for the DPP in relation to the matter.

The seizure was the culmination of a joint operation between gardaí and Dutch police.

It is understood the drugs came from Holland.
