Three people have been arrested following the seizure of over €1m worth of heroin in Dublin.

The arrests followed a joint operation with Dutch police.

Gardaí say the heroin originated in the Netherlands and was discovered when officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit stopped a car at the M50 toll plaza yesterday evening at approximately 8.40pm.

The car was searched and 5kg of heroin were recovered.

Two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested at the scene while a 48-year-old man was later arrested in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

They were taken to Blanchardstown Garda station where the 27-year-old and 29-year-old man are still being held.

Both will be brought before Dublin District Court tomorrow.
