The Rape Crisis Network in Ireland has confirmed the findings of a study which suggests that 95% of rape claims never get to court.
The study also claims that in Dublin alone, at least one person is raped every day on the streets or in their home.
The study, commissioned by the Rape Crisis Network, looked at our attrition rate, the alleged cases that drop out of the system after being reported to gardaí.
It shows less than one in ten sexual assault claims are ever reported but of those that are, 95% never make it to court.
It confirms Ireland's record is poor when it comes to prosecuting sex crimes.
The study also shows that 39 women attended the sexual assault and treatment unit at Dublin's Rotunda Hospital last month, which is more than one woman a day.
A high attendance number of 31 was also recorded in June but the network believes many others are too fearful to make a formal complaint to gardaí.
Full details of the three-year study will be released when it is completed next year.
