Thousands of cigerettes have been uncovered in premises across Dublin as part of Operation Hawkeye.

Customs officers and gardaí based at Store Street in Dublin carried out a series of coordinated dawn searches of premises around the city.

The operation targeted individuals engaged in the supply and sale of contraband cigarettes and tobacco.

Officers uncovered more than 200,000 cigarettes and almost 90 kgs of roll-your-own tobacco in one premises alone during the searches.

Customs officers also removed computer equipment and documentation which will be forensically examined.

A number of people are helping with enquiries and files will be
prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
