A man in his 50s remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital tonight following a shooting incident outside his home near Inch, Co Wexford.
Two investigations by the gardaí and Garda Ombudsman’s Commission are now underway into the incident.
It is understood that a local auctioneer, who had been visiting the man's house, contacted gardaí earlier this afternoon after a shot was fired.
A stand off between the man and the gardaí ensued.
The man later came out of the house where he lives with his wife and six children.
He then discharged a firearm, injuring himself. Gardaí are investigating whether the gun was fired intentionally.
