Glasgow - Man remanded over attacks

A third man has appeared in court charged in connection with the failed car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.

Dr Sabeel Ahmed, who worked at a hospital in Cheshire, is accused of possessing information which could have prevented an act of terrorism.

He was remanded in custody to reappear in court again on 13 August.

The 26-year-old doctor, originally from India, was arrested in Liverpool on 30 June by police investigating the failed attacks.

He is the brother of Kafeel Ahmed who was arrested after a flaming Jeep was driven into Glasgow Airport.

He remains under police guard in a critical condition in hospital.

Two trainee doctors, aged 25 and 28, were released without charge yesterday after being held since their arrest at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Scotland in the early hours of 2 July.

Officers were given until next Saturday to continue questioning another man who was arrested on the M6 motorway in Cheshire on 30 June.

The third person to be charged over the attacks is Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdullah who is accused of conspiring to cause explosions. The 27-year-old is due to appear in court on 27 July.

Meanwhile, the Australian government said it would override a magistrate's decision to release on bail another doctor charged over the alleged plot.

Australian immigration minister Kevin Andrews said Mohammed Haneef would be detained for immigration breaches because he 'failed the character test'.

He said the Indian doctor's work visa has been cancelled and he will be taken into immigration custody if he is released on bail.
