Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin has called on the Government to call a summit of community leaders to address the problem of killings within the city.
Gardaí are conducting a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a man at a house in Finglas in north Dublin this morning.
The 28-year-old man has been named as Kevin Ledwidge.
Two men approached the house in Ratoath Drive shortly before 9.30am and a number of shots were fired when the occupant opened the door.
The gunmen escaped in a silver coloured Opel Vectra, which was recovered almost immediately as it was abandoned, after crashing near the scene on Ratoath Avenue.
The area remains sealed off but the body has been removed for a post mortem examination.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Finglas station or at 01 6667500.
