A new erectile dysfunction medication that eliminates the need to plan sex within a limited timeframe has been approved by the European Commission.

The new formulation of the existing ED pill Cialis contains a lower dose, so it can be taken once per day - and all the time.

This is the first of the ED medicines cleared for continuous use.

The drug's maker, Eli Lilly and Co, plans to start launching the once-daily version in certain European countries in the second half of this year.

Cialis generated worldwide sales of almost €200m in the first three months of 2007, up 19% from the same period last year.
