Gardaí are now treating the death of a man whose body was found in a refrigerated unit at the rear of a fish shop on Henry Street in Galway city yesterday afternoon as murder.
Investigators are still trying to establish the dead man's identity but they believe he was aged between 30 and 40, 6ft in height, of a stocky, muscular build and with graying, light brown hair.
He was wearing a brown leather jacket, a dark coloured jumper, blue jeans and black shoes when he was found.
Gardaí are appealing to anybody who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact them.
The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, has carried out an preliminary examination of the body but a full post mortem will not take place until Monday.
The body was found after Gardaí received a phone call from a member of the public.
Superintendent Tom Curley, who is heading the investigation, declined to say whether there were signs of injuries on the body.
Members of the Garda technical bureau are continuing their investigations and are conducting house to house enquires in the area.
