A garda is being treated in hospital for head injuries after he was struck by a car at a checkpoint in Co Kilkenny this morning.
The checkpoint was set up after a burglary at a compound in Ballycondra, Ballyragget, shortly after 3am.
A large amount of copper wire was taken.
The garda, who was on foot, is in what is described as a comfortable condition in St Luke's Hospital.
A second garda received neck injuries after a squad car was rammed. He has since been released from hospital.
Two cars with trailers were involved in the incident and all vehicles were abandoned at or near the scene.
It is believed that up to seven men were involved in the burglary.
One has been arrested and is being held at Kilkenny Garda Station.
The other six escaped through nearby fields and a garda search of the area is under way.
The services of the air support and dog units have been requested.
