Police in Derry have begun a murder investigation after a man was beaten to death early this morning.
The PSNI say the victim died following a serious assault at Moyola Drive in Shantallow around 3am this morning.
He was named locally as Jim McFadden, a 42-year-old married man, who came from the area.
It's understood he had just returned with some of his family after attending the wedding in Derry.
Detectives say this appears to have been an unprovoked attack. It happened as Mr McFadden reached the front door.
It is believed sticks or baseball bats may have been used by his attackers. The victim received head injuries and died a short time later in hospital.
Mr McFadden's 15-year-old daughter was also attacked and received facial injuries. Her 16-year-old male friend had his arm broken in the incident.
The PSNI say three people have been arrested. They have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
