A 40-year-old Tipperary man has been arrested at Dublin Airport on suspicion of drug smuggling.

Six kilograms of cocaine worth nearly €500,000 were found in the man's luggage after he got off a flight from Frankfurt.

It is believed he had originally flown in from South America.

He was arrested under a joint operation between customs and the garda national drugs unit using new profiling techniques agreed between the agencies.

He was arrested this evening and is now being detained at Santry Garda Station and is being held under the Drug Trafficking Act.
