The funerals have taken place in Counties Wexford and Donegal of the Dunne family, whose bodies were found at their home in Monagear, Co Wexford on Monday.

Ciara Dunne and her daughters Leanne and Shania have been buried at the local cemetery in Burt County Donegal after their funeral mass in the nearby Church of St Aengus.

Hundreds of people attended the mass and there was close to 2,000 people in the cemetery for the burials.

The funeral of Adrian Dunne took place in Boolavogue in Co Wexford.

Mr Dunne was found dead along with his wife Ciara and their two children, 5-year-old Leanne and 3-year-old Shania.

Around 100 people attended the requiem mass of Mr Dunne at St Cormac's church in Boolavogue.

The chief mourners were his mother Mary and his six surviving siblings, Sebastian, Cornelias, Larry, Bridget, Maureen and Natasha.

The mass was concelebrated by Father Richard Redmond, a family friend, Father William Cosgrave, Parish priest of Monagear and Father Michael Byrne, curate at Boolavogue.

In his homily, Father Redmond said the tragedies that occurred this past week has thrown everything into a state of confusion.

He said: 'our minds are crowded with questions which are difficult to answer, our hearts are flooded with emotions that are almost impossible to handle.'

Father Redmond went on to say however, that the warmth of the local community had been immense.

He said mourners gathered in both Boolavogue and Donegal had the prayers of the nation.

He said it was very difficult for the Dunne and O'Brien families to be asked to say farewell to Adrian, to Ciara and to their little girls Leanne and Shania in such an unexpected and public way.

Adrian Dunne was later buried in the cemetery adjoining St Cormac's church.

Mystery still surrounds the exact circumstances leading up to the deaths.

Post mortem results will not be released until the results of toxicology tests are analysed.
