A nephew of the murder victim Noel Campion, who was arrested in the Moyross area of Limerick last night, has appeared at the city's District Court.

John Campion, 20, of Ballygrennan Close in Moyross was charged with possession of a firearm in Moyross last night.

An application to free him to allow him to visit the remains of his uncle was refused, and he was remanded in custody until next Wednesday.

The author of a hard hitting report on the Regeneration of Limerick city has called for highly visible policing on the city's streets and poorest residential areas.

John Fitzgerald said the latest violence once again highlights the need for his recommendations to be implemented.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old youth was injured in a shooting incident in the Moyross area at around 1am this morning.
