A 20-year-old man is in custody in Limerick tonight after a loaded revolver was discovered at the back of a house in the Cravel Park area of Moyross.
The man was arrested was as part of a number of search operations in the area following the murder earlier today of 34-year-old Noel Campion, who was shot dead in the Thomondgate area of the city.
The man is being held at Mayorstone Garda Station.
Mr Campion, a father of three, was ambushed while riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle.
Up to six shots were fired at the victim at about 10.40am this morning.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested.
Gardaí later found a partly burnt silver Volkswagon car in the Moyross area of the city. It is being examined as part of their inquiry.
It is believed the motive for the killing may be feud related.
The victim's brother, Gary Campion, has been charged with two murders in the city.
He is accused of killing security man Brian Fitzgerald, who was shot dead outside his home in November 2002, and also with the murder of Frankie Ryan in Moyross last September.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information in relation to the shooting to contact them at 061-212400.
