Water supply - Five protesting in Limerick

Five people are continuing to occupy the public hallway at Limerick County Council's offices in a row over their local water supply.

The council secured a temporary injunction at the High Court last night compelling them to withdraw from the offices.

A full hearing of injunction proceedings is due to take place on Friday.

In the meantime, the council has appealed to the protestors to leave the offices and to observe the law.

The five, from Pallaskenry and Kildimo, are protesting at being connected without their knowledge to the county's public water supply the source of which is the River Deel, which they claim is polluted.

They want to continue to be supplied by their own local lake, Bleach Lough, which they say is pristine and has been supplying people in the area for generations.

They also claim that Limerick County Council is in breach of an undertaking last June not to change the local water supply until Judicial Review proceedings sought by local people were completed.

The council is denying they gave any such undertaking.
