A 48-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal knife attack in Blanchardstown in northwest Dublin last night.

The victim, a 33-year-old Polish national, was stabbed in the chest at around 9pm.

He was admitted to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown but died an hour later.

The attack took place at an apartment block at Rathlin House, Waterville.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

The state pathologist was due to carry out a post mortem on the body this morning.
