The Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland has produced its 26th annual review.
In 2006, the ASAI received 1,382 formal written complaints about 1,002 advertisements.
The number of complaints received in 2006 is almost on par with 2005 levels.
However, the number of complaints made in relation to alcohol advertising fell to 16, a drop of more than 30%.
During 2006, the ASAI acceded to a request from the Environmental Protection Agency to examine complaints about advertising for electrical and electronic equipment which are subject to new regulations.
A total of 12 complaints were forwarded by the EPA, and all were settled informally.
This year, the ASAI hopes to review its approach to advertising in relation to new forms of electronic media.
