Gardaí say they are now carrying out a murder investigation following the death of a man found in a sports field in Thurles, Co Tipperary on Sunday evening.
A post mortem examination concluded late last night by the State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, has established that the man died as a result of a stab wound.
Gardaí are still trying to identify him.
They are appealing to anyone who has not heard from a family member for some days to get in touch to try to help them establish who the dead man is.
He is described as aged in his 30s, 1.83m (6'0") tall, with black, slightly greying hair, and a scar over one of his eyes.
Gardaí believe it is possible the man may not be Irish.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the gardaí at Thurles on 0504-25100.
