A 23-year-old man is standing trial at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin accused of the attempted murder of a security manager.
Darren Larkin denies shooting Akef Alquasar in the head on the 20 February 2006 at the Leisureplex Complex in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.
He also denies possession of a sawn off shotgun.
The court heard today that after shooting Mr Alquasar once, the defendant tried to shoot him a second time but missed because he was off balance.
The jury heard that Mr Larkin ran to a waiting car while Mr Alquasar ran after him.
Mr Alquassar was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where one large shotgun pellet and a number of smaller ones were removed from his head.
The court heard that he knew Mr Larkin from the area and had spoken to him a number of times.
He said he had recognised Mr Larkin when he came in the door of the Leisureplex.
He said that Mr Larkin arrived at the scene armed with the loaded shotgun and with a hat pulled down over his face.
