Pope Benedict has accused rich countries of plundering and sacking Africa and other poor regions and of exporting to them the 'cynicism of a world without God'.

In his first book since becoming Pontiff, he says the countries concerned have been bent on power and profit.

He has urged them to rediscover the 'Real Jesus'.

Entitled 'Jesus of Nazareth,' the book written by Benedict XVI will be on sale in Italian, German, and Polish bookshops from Monday, April 16, which is also the Pope's 80th birthday.

The volume, 448 pages long, is to be translated into 20 languages.

In it the Pope also indirectly hits out at popular speculative versions of Christ's life such as 'The Da Vinci Code'.
