Galway County Councillor Michael Fahy is to begin a one-year prison sentence next week.
Fahy was denied bail at the Court of Criminal Appeal today and will begin his prison term on Tuesday.
Last week, he was sentenced to 12 months in jail and fined €75,000 for theft and fraud offences.
Fahy, 56, from Caherduff, Ardrahan, Co Galway, is due to present himself at Loughrea Garda Station on 3 April, from where he will be taken to Castlerea Prison.
